STOP HERE AND READ THIS BEFORE PAYING FOR THIS CAMP: Please ONLY register when “accepted” to the program. After we receive a teacher recommendation for your teen, it will be reviewed. If accepted, you will receive this email notice: “Congratulations! We have accepted your teen into Nature Quest TEEN Camp 2024!” You may only ONLY register and pay IF you have received the official acceptance email. NO REFUNDS will be processed. Don’t register unless accepted.

Dates: June 24-28, 2024

TIME: 9 am – 3 pm (check-in at the bus at 8:30) Departs from REI 350 Independence Blvd, VB

PRICE: $400/camper + 2.6% credit card service fee = $410.40 total 

DESCRIPTION: THIS CAMP IS LED BY TWO PASSIONATE NATURALISTS! Outdoor adventures each day for TEEN nature enthusiasts. Hop-on-board The Nature Bus! Each day we will take the bus to a variety of natural areas. We will be exploring new ecosystems daily, across Coastal Virginia. Hands-on, up-close identification of plants and animals, environmental stewardship, use of naturalist tools & methods . . . and so much more! Limited availability, so we advise you to apply for your teen’s spot now!

For the enjoyment of all campers, we require a TEACHER RECOMMENDATION (see below).

NOTES: We depart each day from REI, Town Center, Virginia Beach. No discounts are available for siblings; each seat on The Nature Bus is $400 for the week. Once purchased, we do not offer refunds; all sale are final.  

WHAT’S INCLUDED:
– Nature exploration, nature experiences, visits to a variety of local natural areas, “learn to be a naturalist”
– Transportation on air conditioned/heated new vehicle with seat belts
– Meet the “experts” in the field!
– Use of naturalist supplies and tools
– All fees (gasoline, special use permits; entrance fees; excluding food/drink)
– Expert pre-planning services

HOW TO APPLY:
– STEP ONE: Ask your teen’s teacher(s) to write a recommendation letter(s). Recommendation letters must be confidential and must come directly from a teacher’s email to our email (info@TheNatureBus.com). Subject line = Teacher Recommendation for (your teen’s first + last name) – age 13-15 camp.  We hope the teacher will write about these topics as they apply to your teen specifically –  1. evidence of interest in the natural world 2. evidence of cooperation with others, excellent behavior 3. evidence of leadership skills 4. any other supporting information that the teen is a good fit for this unique opportunity

– STEP TWO: Please WAIT. We will notify you via email regarding acceptance. If your teen is accepted, visit TheNatureBus.com to pay for your June 24-28, 2024 camp. You will receive a confirmation email.
– Welcome to Nature Quest Summer Camp 2024! 

THINGS TO BRING/WEAR TO CAMP EACH DAY:
– Pack a lunch each day in a SMALL insulated lunchbox with an icepack; we provide picnic blankets (Allergy List will be sent to you when all participants have registered; please don’t bring items on the list)
– All registration forms and waiver forms completed; required to board the bus.
– Refillable water bottle with ICE cubes; it needs to fit into a backpack side pocket (for hands-free hiking). Your teen can refill their water bottle all day long.
– Rain jacket; rain boots; we provide umbrellas
– Closed-toed/tennis shoes (no open-toed shoes)
– Appropriate clothing for the day, swim suit, towel, water shoes
– The camp packet will have a list of other recommended supplies to keep your teen camper safe and comfortable

*We go “light rain” or shine. In the case of light rain, we lend you an umbrella; we simply take cover and wait it out. Intermittent rain won’t stop the adventuring. No matter the weather, we will hold camp. We have picnic shelters and/or some local indoor nature venues where we can take cover.  ALL SALES FINAL/NO REFUNDS.

*ALL OF OUR TOURS INVOLVE WALKING; CAMPERS SHOULD EXPECT VARYING DEGREES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.

SAFETY MEASURES: We care about the health and safety of those participating in our nature experiences. The bus is sanitized between each tour. We often ride with windows partially cracked open for some airflow, like an open-air tram (weather permitting). Prior to opening day of camp, both parents (and any other adults who may drop off /pick up from camp) will need to attend a one hour mandatory orientation meeting. Sign-in and sign-out procedures will keep your camper safe. Regarding our sick policy, please stay away if your teen is not feeling well or has a fever. Do not bring sick teens to camp. Campers will be required to wear seat belts at all times while the bus is moving. After all registrations are finalized, we will send out a list of participant allergies; please do not put these items into your teens’s lunch.
