Alex Lambert is the co-owner/farmer of Lambert Shellfish. His family purchased a special piece of property on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in 2013. At the time, Alex didn’t know anything about aquaculture but after watching the watermen out in Hungars Creek behind their house, he became interested and started watching YouTube videos and reading articles and books to learn more about it. Eventually he gave it a shot in 2016, bought some seed and some cages and it became a hobby for a couple of years. Then in 2019, he quit his job with PricewaterhouseCoopers (an accounting firm) and left his life in New York City behind to pursue his dream of starting his own commercial oyster farm. Lambert Shellfish is one of the only operations in Virginia that uses the adjustable longline system. Today they’re focused on producing the highest quality oyster, while being the most environmentally- and community-friendly operation possible.
